Among the many 1:4 scale custom pieces devoted to Wolverine, this kit stands out for the excellent sculpt and the perfect museum-style pose, quite similar (in my opinion) to the most classic 1:6 scale statues realized by Bowen Design. Sculpted by the talented Gabriel Francisco Risco Yanez and released in 2017 with a very limited edition size of only 30 samples, the statue was commissioned by a collector known with the pseudonym of "Sneakyman", who also took care of the art direction. The most popular member of the X-Men is upright on a rocky terrain, enriched by some tube-shaped ruins with a metallic appearance, and shows an elegant museum pose, with the head rotated on one side, the legs slightly apart and the lethal claws at both hands in good evidence. The statue exudes a great sense of pride and power: the body exhibits hyper-defined muscle masses on chest, abdomen and back, swollen veins on both arms, incredibly bumped triceps and an oversized trapezium, which notably characterizes the visual impact of the whole figure. The original kit offered the design of the classic yellow-blue suit, with a pair of long gloves, high boots with rigid, pointed and rather large winglets on both sides, the rigid and curved guards on shoulders and a high belt at waist, with a centered "X" at buckle, reminding the traditional logo of the mutant's team. However, the costume did not included the classic, lateral pointed stripes on trunk. The kit was released with some intriguing extras and five interchangeable heads. The left hand may be displayed with closed fist and unsheathed claws or the hand holding a scratched helmet of Magneto; on both hands, the claws are available with a metallic or, alternatively, a bone aspect. Two heads depict the masked face, with the traditional, rigid and upturned winglets, a well-sculpted nose just appearing below the mask and some protruding wrinkles on the hollow cheeks and around the chin, which provide a good expressiveness; one face shows a closed mouth and the other exhibits a rabid sneer with gritted teeth. As usual, the unmasked heads are characterized by a thick hair, arched eyebrows and long sideburns which end at chin level; one face is also enriched with a burning cigar butt, while the mask always lies down on the back of the neck; note that one of the faces shows the features of the old Logan, with a wrinkled forehead, the hair combed backwards and a long beard, masterfully sculpted. Fabio Funghini was entrusted with the coloring of this amazing piece: Fabio is an expert in model painting and a good friend of mine, living and working here in Rome. I asked him to add the typical black stripes adorning the Logan suit on both sides of the trunk and, above all, to use bright yellow and blue colors, as faithful as possible to the original Comics. The work was long and tiring, but the final result (in my humble opinion, of course) is simply amazing! All muscle contours are now emphasized by perfect nuances on chest, legs and back, while a (barely sketched) yellowish color points out the veins on arms; a brilliant red embellishes the large belt of the hero, thus offering a breathtaking chromatic contrast with the dominant colors of the suit. Note the metallic tonality of the scratches of the rigid guards on shoulders and of hero's claws, the perfect pointed contours on boots, the finishing touches on Magneto's helmet, the shaded grey depicting the rocky terrain and the vivid black used on the circular pedestal, adding a true touch of class to the whole piece. Also the heads are very well-finished, with appropriate shades outlining the features of the faces and a good attention paid to all details. I feel a special liking for this statue: the museum-like pose and the powerful physique give the figure an aura of pride that has no equal among the many custom available on the market and make it a very elegant piece, equipped with an astonishing visual impact. In addition, the extremely limited edition size and the coloring, made to perfection on the basis of my own indications, make it a very special collectible in my museum of Marvel statues.
